Hilary Pharr is a Brooklyn-based artist and textile designer, and has also worked as a teaching artist in various art education programs in NYC. Her work, a combination of meticulously rendered detail, gestural or erased surfaces, or flat and textural paint, explores the ephemeral nature of identity and memory. Through various mediums, she seeks to exploit representation to find the unknown within what is comfortingly familiar. Considering the power that everyday objects and memories have over our constructed identities, she looks for moments where the subject matter takes on a life of its own and tension emerges between what is at once intimate, familiar, personal, and yet subtly estranged from its origin.
